Q: What is a Quick Toll Card?
A: As you may be aware the Margate Bridge recently replaced its aging automated toll collection system. As part of this new collection system the Margate Bridge can now offer the convenience of a Quick Toll Card (QTC). The QTC is a proximity based, electronic device which is used to deduct a prepaid toll from an existing account, without the need for exact change. A QTC account is established with a specified number of "trips". The toll collection system automatically reduces the number of available trips in your account when you use your QTC to pay for passage through the toll plaza. The card is about the size of a credit card and can be kept easily accessible in your vehicles.

Q: Why should I purchase a Quick Toll Card?
A: In addition to the convenience of using the manned and automated lanes without needing exact change, bridge patrons who purchase and use QTCs will enjoy discounted toll rates . The card can be conveniently "replenished" with trips when needed, making it easy for you to enjoy the most convenient and best priced service the Margate Bridge offers.

Q: How do I use the QTC?
A: The QTC is used by coming to a complete stop at in any of the four toll lanes of the Margate Bridge. To use the QTC, simply hold it near the QTC reader where indicated. The readers are located near the toll taker window of the manned lanes and near the coin basket in the exact change lanes. A small light on the QTC reader will change to green, indicating that your QTC has been read successfully. Once your card has been read, the traffic light will change from red to green and the Patron Fare Display (PFD) will indicate that your toll payment has been received and you may proceed through the toll plaza. Please remember that you must come to a complete stop in order to use your card and should not attempt to "roll thru" the toll plaza.

Q: What type of vehicle may use the QTC?
A: The QTC may only be used for a passenger car, a light pick-up truck or sport utility vehicle (SUV) with a gross vehicle weight of 5,999 pounds or less. These vehicles are referred to as Class 1 vehicles.

Q: Can I use the QTC if I am towing a trailer with my otherwise permitted Class 1 vehicle?
A. You may use the QTC while towing a trailer with your Class 1 vehicle, but you must use the manned lanes when towing a trailer. Trailers are not permitted in the exact change lanes. An additional trip will be deducted from your QTC account when you pass through a manned lane while towing a trailer.

Q: Can I use the QTC on my larger truck which has a GVW over 5,999 pounds?
A: As stated above, the QTC is for use exclusively with a Class 1 vehicle. All other vehicles may not use a QTC and must use the manned toll lanes and pay the appropriate cash toll.

Q: Can more than one person use a QTC?
A: A QTC may be used by whoever has the card in their possession. You may also setup an account with more than one QTC connected to it so that family members or businesses can share a single "pool" of trips rather than having to purchase separate balances for each family member or business associate. If you have an account with multiple cards, any one of the cards numbers associated with the account can be used to replenish the account.

Q: Where can I purchase my QTC?
A:
You may purchase on-line through our secure website at www.margatebridge.com or at one of the manned lanes at the Margate Bridge. QTCs will also be sold at the Milton & Betty Katz Jewish Community Center, in Margate, NJ each Friday from 9am to 3pm (excluding JCC closures).

Q: How do I purchase a QTC at the toll plaza at the Margate Bridge?
A: You may purchase two types of QTCs in the manned lanes of the Bridge. A registered QTC is purchased by submitting a fully completed application. An unregistered QTC is purchased simply by indicating to the Toll Collector how many trips you wish to purchase. Please understand that any transaction at the toll plaza must occur quickly so as not to disturb the flow of traffic. Therefore, you will not be permitted to complete the application while in the toll lane, and you may only pay with cash. A trip will automatically be deducted from your new account to pay for your current fare.

Q: What does it mean to register my QTC?
A: Because the QTC can be used by whoever has the card in their possession, we encourage patrons to register their cards. By filling out a short application, we are able to identify a card as yours and should it become lost or stolen we can transfer any remaining trips to a new card for you. If you choose to have an unregistered QTC, you forfeit your deposit and any remaining trips if the card is lost or stolen.

Q: Where can I obtain an application for a registered QTC?
A: You may pick up an application in a manned lane and return it completely filled out on a future trip, or download a copy of the application from our website, www.margatebridge.com. Either way, in order to purchase a registered QTC, the application must be completely filled out prior to entering the Toll Plaza.

Q: What types of payment may I use to purchase or replenish a QTC?
A: Our secure website will process your payment through a PayPal interface that will enable you to use Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover or PayPal. Only cash will be accepted in the manned lanes at the Margate Bridge. At the Jewish Community Center we are only able to accept Visa, MasterCard, Cash or Check. We DO NOT accept payments via the mail.

Q: How will I know when my QTC account is running low?
A: After your QTC is read, take notice of the PFD. When your account has 10 or fewer trips remaining, you will receive a message of "Low Trip Balance". Additionally, the amber traffic light will illuminate, warning you of a low balance. When your account is NOT running low, you will receive a message of "Trip Balance" and will see the number of trips remaining on your account. By observing this message as you pass through the toll plaza, you can always check the number of remaining trips.

Q. When my trip balance is low, how can I replenish my QTC account?
A: By visiting our secure website at www.margatebridge.com and following the directions for replenishing your account, you may replenish only registered QTCs. You may replenish either your registered or unregistered card in the manned toll lanes, or at the Margate Jewish Community Center as previously indicated. Your QTC account will be credited with the number of additional trips that you purchase within 5 business days.

Q: What information will I need to present to purchase a QTC?
A: If you purchase your QTC card at our toll plaza, and if you wish to have a registered QTC, you will need to submit a completed application with general information such as name and address. If a QTC is purchased through our secure website, we will use the billing information in lieu of a completed application.

Q: Why do you charge a $5 deposit on the QTC?
A: We charge a deposit to ensure the return of the QTC if you no longer desire to use it. The cards remain the property of the Margate Bridge Company and upon return, can be reissued to another customer. Should you surrender your undamaged QTC, you will receive a refund of your deposit.

Q: Who should I contact if I have questions on my QTC account or anything else regarding this program?
A: You may call the Margate Bridge office at (609) 965-5174 to receive additional information on the QTC program.

WEBSITE AND ONLINE STORE

Q: Why can't I fill out the application on the website?
A: The application provided online as PDF is used for reference only. By completing an online purchase, your billing information is used in lieu of a printed application. You only need to print the application and complete it if you wish to make your purchase at the Margate Jewish Community Center or at the bridge tollbooth.

Q: I don’t have a PayPal account, or I don’t want to use my PayPal account to purchase, what can I do?
A: If you do not have a PayPal account and do not want to have one or if you have a PayPal account but do not wish to use it simply click on the “Guest Checkout” Option and continue from there.

Q: My login & password don't work and they always have before. What's wrong?
A: We are now using PayPal (www.paypal.com) to process our website payments. So if you have never used PayPal before, you can either create a PayPal account, or continue as a Guest. You will no longer use the previous login/password combination from the Margate Bridge website. Any problems with lost PayPal usernames or passwords are handled by their site.
